5G-Advanced explained

Writer: wit-techwit-tech

5G-Advanced is the next generation of 5G technology, which will improve network efficiency, latency, and coverage. It will also enable new applications and use cases, such as extended reality (XR) and self-driving vehicles.

What will 5G-Advanced do?

Improve network performance

5G-Advanced will use AI and machine learning (ML) to improve network performance, energy efficiency, and spectral efficiency

Enable new applications

5G-Advanced will support advanced applications, such as XR, cloud gaming, and high-precision location services

Improve connectivity

5G-Advanced will improve connectivity for people moving at high speeds, such as those on trains and planes

Support new devices

5G-Advanced will enable the production of smaller, more cost-efficient 5G devices with longer battery life

How is 5G-Advanced being developed?

The 3GPP standards body is developing 5G-Advanced

The first release of 5G-Advanced, Release 18, was frozen in June 2024

The second and final major release of 5G-Advanced, Release 19, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025

5G-Advanced is expected to be a key component of smart city infrastructures, self-driving vehicles, and more.
